What will you learn in this workshop on seeking a fertility specialist?

Maybe you have equipped yourself with a solid basis of fertility information. Maybe you are overwhelmed with information. Time has passed, you have followed every suggestion given and conception has eluded you.

Fertility problems are attributable equally to men and women. And, roughly, a third of infertility problems are due to a combination of men and women or unexplained causes. When the time comes to identify where the infertility problem resides and to suggest particular solutions based upon a diagnosis, you may wish there to be a single doctor for both you and your partner. A fertility specialist can provide big-picture advice for the two of you together.

In this workshop you will learn about:

- When it’s time to seek a specialist.

When should you seek a fertility specialist? How long should you try on your own? How long should you try with your primary care physician?

- Preparation before seeing a specialist.

What you should do/try prior to seeing a specialist. What your primary care physician or OB/GYN will do with you before referring you to a fertility specialist.

- Primary care physicians vs. reproductive specialists.

If your situation has moved beyond the care of your primary physician or OB/GYN. While some primary care physicians may “specialize” in fertility issues, that does not necessarily mean they can handle your situation effectively.

- Choosing the right specialist.

Discern where to go. What types of specialists exist and which one is right for your situation? Learn how to find and evaluate physician and/or clinic success rates. Learn how to determine the level of experience a specialist has.

- Fertility clinics.

What is important to look for in a fertility clinic?

- Getting a physician referral.

How will you benefit from this workshop entitled “When and How to Seek a Fertility Specialist”?

Workshop education with Q&A driven by participants’ real world situations combined with personal and focused coaching from a seasoned fertility nurse is a very effective method of teaching, inspiring and empowering. The dynamic created by workshop coaching will have a big impact on you.

Here’s just a few ways you can benefit from this coaching workshop:

- Learn about the different types of specialists and understand which ones are right for your situation.

Many physicians “specialize” in infertility, but that does not guarantee that they are up on the latest technology. It may only mean that they have attended specialty seminars on infertility.

- Understand the questions you should ask a prospective physician or clinic.

Knowing what questions to ask is one thing; knowing how the answers should impact you is another. Learn how to interview a specialist beforehand. And equally as important, know what to look for in the answers. Learn the import and implications behind the questions you ask.

- Understand the importance of quality and ethics in your decision.

Nobody is interested in becoming the next reproductive headline. Get comfortable with a clinic before you choose. Learn how to check that the clinic has good quality control and strong ethics.

- Locate the clinic that is right for you.

Typically insurance does not pay for fertility treatments so it is important that you choose the right specialist and a quality clinic. You will live the results of these choices for your entire life.

- Learn your limits. Limit frustration. Save money.

Once you’re on the reproductive track, it can be hard to get off. Before you talk with a specialist know something about the invasive tests and procedures that lie ahead. Learn the importance of giving consideration ahead of time to how far you are willing to take the process. It’s an emotional time ahead; learning your limits now will keep you from being talked into something you don’t want or can’t afford.
