Kim Helm has over 20 years of nursing experience, ten years at a large metropolitan hospital and over ten years in reproductive medicine. In reproductive medicine, Kim worked with ovulation induction, IVF and Third Party patients, specializing in IVF and Third Party Reproduction. She is currently a Donor Coordinator RN and works exclusively with Donor Egg, Donor Sperm, Embryo Donation and Gestational Carrier.
Kim has been an In Vetro Fertilization (IVF) Coordinator in a program that performed over 700 cases per year. Cases consisted of IVF, ZIFT, GIFT, ICSI, FET, Egg Donor/Recipient, Embryo Donation/Recipient and Gestational Carrier IVF. She coordinated Patient Care, Administration, Education and Third Party Reproduction. She monitored patient's response to medications, had daily follow up calls to patients instructing on medication dosage and return dates for ultra sounds. She performed lengthy consultations with couples undergoing ART procedures, educating couples of the detailed process of IVF, pre-testing, medications, side effects, egg retrieval and transfer, and options of cryopreservation and FET. On behalf of patients, she consulted with physicians and counselors, and researched infertility support resources.
Kim has written a plethora of educational materials for patients. She has consulted with couples requiring an egg donor, matched egg donors with recipients and ensured couple were fully informed prior to and during procedures, coordinating cycles and overseeing legal contracts and consents.
She has performed and/or assisted with ultrasounds, intrauterine inseminations, post coital testing, endometrial biopsies, ovarian cyst drainage, D & C, egg retrievals, embryo transfers, mock embryo transfers and sonohsytograms.
As a Donor Coordinator, Kim counsels Egg Donors, Recipient Patients, Donor Embryo Recipients, and IVF/Gestational Carrier Patients. She is responsible for compliance with the latest FDA regulations and is knowledgeable of all legal aspects. She is responsible for screening donors, fielding all communication and correspondence with prospective donors, reviewing medical and historical donor records and educating donors on treatments, injections, medications, retrieval procedures, legal issues and consents. Kim also oversees that “match” process between donors and recipients, coordinating all aspects of the match cycle.
Kim’s holds a Diploma in Nursing from the Butterworth School of Nursing. She is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Nurses Professional Group, the Mental Health Professional Group and the Michigan Reproductive Nurse Association. She continues her education at numerous national conferences relative to infertility. She is also a regular speaker and educator on the subject of IVF and Third Party Reproduction at numerous local conferences.
